Self-Test Instructional Videos
Self-Tests are meant to be taken 2 hours after a meal - except fasting glucose. Fasting glucose is as soon as you wake up.
For an accurate understanding of body chemistry it is best to take Self-Tests at different times of the day and several different days in the week.
To provide the most accurate information, Self-Tests should all be taken around the same time to get a full snapshot of the body’s current chemical makeup.
Blood Pressure Test
This video explains how to test your resting and standing blood pressure at home. If you only need to find your baseline blood pressure, you only need to perform the “resting” blood pressure test.
Supplies Needed:
Blood Pressure Monitor
Steps:
This test is done 2 hours after a meal.
To test RESTING BP:
Lay down on a flat surface like a bed and wrap the arm cuff around your left arm allowing enough room to fit two fingers in the cuff while its deflated. Don't cross your legs.
Wait for 60+ seconds for your body to relax.
Start the machine and wait for the reading. THIS IS YOUR RESTING BLOOD PRESSURE.
To test STANDING BP:
Starting from laying down, place the monitor on the edge of the bed next to you.
Stand up and press start on the monitor and allow it to start taking your reading while you are getting to your feet.
Stay as still as possible as this maneuver often creates an error message.
This is your STANDING BLOOD PRESSURE.
We don't always need to see standing blood pressure but when we ask for it, we need to see both readings to compare one to the other.
Both readings should include all 3 numbers: Systolic/Diastolic/Pulse.
